If this is your first-time traveling to Marrakech, then know that you will land in a wonderful world of colors. It is where unique culture and magical landmarks mix with joy in your heart. Let’s find out about the most important tips before traveling to Marrakech.
Don’t take your sweaters
It gets so hot in Marrakech during the summer. So, when planning to travel during this time of the year, it is better for you to drink a lot of water. While you are there, don’t forget to wear comfortable cotton clothes, and take walks in the morning or late afternoon. The weather is always good in Marrakech. On the other hand, regardless of the season, the nights can be cool in Marrakech. So, prepare for a night out with friends!
Get some Dirhams before
The currency in Morocco is the dirham (MAD). Be aware that 1$ = 9.65 Dh that 1 € = 11 Dh. Do not change at the airport, you will lose a lot of money! In Marrakech, there are a lot of offices where you can change money for a very good rate. It is sometimes possible to pay in foreign currency but we don’t recommend it because the exchange rate is not always fair.
Tap water in Morocco is clean and drinkable, or you can always buy bottles of water like Bahia, Sidi Ali, or Ain Soultan water. Always remember to eat local, it will cost you less and you will absolutely adore it! You can actually experience local food in the night market and in cafes overlooking Jamaa el Fna. All of which are delicious and much cheaper than one of the most popular restaurants. These are mostly located in Luxury hotels.
Taxi… Here comes the struggle
One of the important tips that you should know before traveling to Marrakech is to agree with your taxi driver on the amount that you will pay before you start the journey, also if you are staying in a hotel you can ask the staff about the amount they advise for your trip. Perhaps, the first thing to do before going up is to negotiate your price! If your accommodation is in the medina, it will cost you around 150 Dh from the airport. Nowadays, there are a lot of scammers who ask for 200DH or more, so make sure you are familiar with the culture so no one scams you.
Before getting lost in the streets
The chances of getting lost in the Moorish streets of Marrakech may be somewhat high. If this is your first trip, keep the paper maps provided by your hotel, or rely on Google Maps. Do not hesitate to ask about directions, people there speak French, English, and Spanish fluently.
Marrakech is a beautiful city, welcoming its visitors with hospitality and appreciation, you will feel like home amazed by the splendor of the Moorish charm. One visit is never enough. Once you choose to travel to Morocco, you undoubtedly realize that it is the best choice you’ve made in your life.
